  • Guided Bird Walk: Carpenter Peak

    This Event is : Grab your bird book and binoculars and join us for bird watching adventures.

    What should folks bring or expect:  The May walk is to Carpenter Peak which is a more strenuous trail (6.2 miles).  We will look for migrant birds and hope to hear and possibly see Ovenbirds as they set up their nesting territories. Bring plenty of water and snacks as this will be a longer walk than usual. Dress for changing weather conditions. Registration required and meeting location is at the Visitor Center patio.

    What should folks bring or expect:  Lathrop has partnered with La Veta Trails and Trinidad Trails Alliance to provide trail maintenance and restoration training prior to our National Trails Day Trail Work on Saturday, June 7th.

    This skills training is designed for volunteer trail stewards and crew leaders who want to take an active role in maintaining and protecting mountain biking trails in Huerfano and Las Animas Counties. Well-maintained trails don’t happen by accident—they rely on passionate volunteers who help keep them safe, sustainable, and accessible for everyone. We are thrilled to have Jenn Green with the Trinidad Trails Alliance deliver the training. Lunch will be provided. Free!
